Right the Ship

Democracy doesn’t belong to a president, a political party or the people temporarily holding power—it belongs to us. “Right the Ship” is an emotional political ballad that imagines American democracy as a vessel caught in a dangerous storm, with the Constitution as its compass, the rule of law as its chart and ordinary citizens as the crew who must ultimately determine its course. Through haunting piano, cello and strings, the song confronts concerns about Donald Trump, MAGA, Project 2025, attacks on democratic norms, political dishonesty and a compliant Republican Congress before arriving at its central realization: “This isn’t their ship. It isn’t his ship. It never was. It’s ours.” As the 2026 midterm elections approach, “Right the Ship” turns fear into resolve with a message about voting, civic participation and the power of We the People to protect American democracy. The storm is still out there. And so are we.
